Don’t Believe Everything You Think
The past few weeks I’ve found myself a bit paralyzed.
Paralyzed by my fears.
Believing all the thoughts that were trying to keep me safe.
The fact of the matter is, most of our thoughts are just that…thoughts.
Nothing more and nothing less.
They certainly are not the truth about who I am or who you are.
Our thoughts are just that…thoughts. Nothing more and nothing less.
When we choose to believe them, we stay safe. In this case, buying into the belief that I only can be safe when:
I’m small
I’m what I think other people want or need me to be
I’m invisible
The truth is that these thoughts are a coping mechanism I developed as a child to keep myself safe.
That’s what we do as children – we develop coping mechanisms to help us survive any number of life events big and small.
In working with my clients, I see the thoughts and other coping mechanisms they developed as children no longer work now that they are adults.
I work with them to choose better, more empowering thoughts like:
I am choosing to thank those thoughts that kept me safe for so many years
I am choosing to think differently now
I am choosing to be my authentic self
I am choosing to visible and share my experiences
What thoughts with the adult you choose today?
